Started in 1992 by founders, Ron Stene and Jim Josephs, EPIC Labs was designed to provide an outlet for wholesale optical labs to send specialty RX work. As the optical industry moved toward high speed and high volume production techniques, specialty work became a “clog in the drain” so to speak. Wholesale labs needed to be more efficient to stay competitive in the marketplace and specialty work often prevented them from doing so.
Recognizing that these labs were in need of a non-competitive partner, Ron and Jim opened a specials-only lab that could provide specialty products as well as unparalleled technical support to wholesale laboratories. The response was immediate as labs realized they could streamline their production process, increase their product offerings and reduce their breakage by partnering with EPIC; a laboratory capable of reaching into the extremes of all optical categories and nimble enough to serve customers on an individual basis.
As word spread, EPIC flourished. What was once a two employee, surface-only operation, has blossomed into a multi-tasked laboratory with over 20 employees. In 2004 and 2008, Brian Stene and Jesse Arndt (respectively) became co-owners ensuring a smooth transition to the company’s bright future. Today, EPIC works with labs of all sizes on projects big and small and has firmly established itself as the premiere outlet for specialty eyeglass fabrication.

Quality is #1
Let’s say it again. Quality is #1. Now once more with feeling…..QUALITY IS #1! At EPIC Labs, we have built a solid reputation in the optical industry as a quality first lab. We employ some of the finest optical people in the industry and their job is to work with our customers to get tough jobs done right.
Creativity
Besides offering a top shelf product, EPIC is determined to stretch the imagination on what is available to patients with “out-of-the-ordinary” visual needs. EPIC excels at creating custom solutions that are tailored to fit individual requests. You’ve got a harpist that needs an intermediate add imbedded in a near add? No problem. You’ve got a hemianopic patient that needs 20 diopters of base out prism in the lower temporal portion of the lens? No problem. Admittedly, we have a bit of a “mad scientist” mentality around here but the products we’ve made have helped hundreds of patients get exactly what they want out of their eyewear. We’ll try just about anything….just don’t tell our mothers!
A Resource for You
Of course, our objective is to be your source for specialty work. But we also want you to know that we welcome questions and are more than happy to help consult on any kind of jobs you may have. EPIC employees are well versed in optical lingo and love to shoot the optical breeze. Consider us your lab’s specialty department.
